L-R: Simon Bugg (Ian Hammond), Amelia Sefton (Emma Morgan) and Richard Oliver (James Moran)
Recording a Book Trailer
by author EJ Jackson

Watching characters who have lived inside my head for upwards of two years come vividly to life, and hearing dialogue I'd previously only heard in my imagination, was every bit as surreal and exciting as I imagined it might be.

For an Indie Author who has never produced a book trailer before, much less one involving live actors, I had been quietly terrified for weeks that recording day would come, and I would be exposed as a rubbish writer who had bitten off more than she could chew.

But watching actors Richard Oliver, Simon Bugg and Amelia Sefton work their magic under the direction of Sue Turner on Saturday afternoon at Richard Oliver's Theatre Space in Winsford, Cheshire, I realised I hadn't - and that it will be alright, more than alright, in fact. Becuase everyone knew what they were doing - and if I was a little quiet and seemed a little shell-shocked, and dare I say it, as if I wasn't sure if I knew what I was doing at first, it didn't matter, because everything went without a hitch, everyone seemed to be enjoying themselves, and I was happy -more than happy- with what we achieved.

Now the footage is in the hands of the editor and whilst I wait for the first cut of the trailer, I have some more manuscript editing to do, more promotional stuff to discuss, and additional  artwork for the trailer to oversee.... what we've got so far is very exciting, and I can't wait to share it with you!

It has been more than a year since I first conceived the idea of a book trailer for 'The Methuselah Paradox', and there have been times when I wondered if it would ever happen at all. But I desperately wanted a trailer, and I wanted it to be my vision, not a few minutes of rolling text in front of some stock images and background music from a shared archive.  I persisted, and found talented artists, a cast, and a musician  to help me bring the vision to life - and now we are more than halfway to acheiving what i set out to do.  There's still a way to go, but I know we'll make it. My thanks to everyone who has helped so far - the actors and artists and musicians and especially the crowdfunders, without whom it certainly wouldn't have happened!
